I kicked my wife out and made sure my stepdaughter stayed with me after finding out where shed been taking the girl.
Weve been together six years. She has an eight-year-old daughter who was just two when we met. Her real dad walked out a few months before she was born, then out of the blue, he showed up at our doorstep in December while I was at work. The first time my stepdaughter saw him, he barely even looked at her.
Two weeks later, my wife drops it on me that theyve decided on shared custody. She wouldnt tell me where he lived or even give me his number.
She always drives our girl to and from school and clubs.
But I noticed in early January, my stepdaughter started dreading visits to her dads. She said his place was horrible, filthy, and she couldnt sleep there. She even told meright in front of her mumthat she never wanted to go back. Then last Friday happened
My wife finished work at 8 PM and was supposed to pick her up straight after. By 9 PM, they still werent home, and she wasnt answering her phone. I called her sisters, her mumno one had a clue where she was. I even went to her workplacenothing.
Just after 2 AM, they finally walked in. I was furious. My wife gave me this innocent look and said, *»Sorry.»* Her story? Her phone died at work. She drove to her exs place, but no one was home. She couldnt call him, so she waited. They finally showed up after 9 PM with takeaway. The dad claimed theyd walked to the shop and grabbed food on the way back. My wife went inside, let them finish eating, then said she dozed off on the sofa, woke up at 1:45 AM, and rushed home. *»Had a rough day,»* she said.
Finally, she gave me his address and asked me to take our girl there the next day. When I pulled up, it was a run-down shack by the motorway in a rough area! Cockroaches everywhere, beer bottles all over the place. The bloke was sitting there in his underwear, staring blankly at the wall. I turned right around with my girl and left.
Tonight, I found out my wifes been giving him money and topping up his phone from our family budget. Are they back together? At this point, Im done with the liesI wouldnt be surprised if theyd slept together.
Last night, I told her to leave but insisted our daughter stays with methis is the only safe place for her. Im not sending her back to that dump! Even my mother-in-law fully supports her living with me, and legally, Im down as her guardian.
Guess Ive got no choice now. I packed her things and changed the locks. The police have been notified about the living conditions, and child services are involved. My stepdaughter sleeps in my room now, clutching her stuffed bear like she did when she was five. I sit by her bed each night until she drifts off, making sure she knows shes safe. The divorce papers will be served by Monday. This isnt just about custody anymoreits about keeping her out of harms way. And Ill do whatever it takes.
