My Parents Told Me to Be Patient When I Said I Didn’t Love Sarah and Asked Me to Wait—Here’s How That Turned Out

My parents told me to be patient when I said I didnt love Emily and begged me to wait. How did my waiting end?

Marrying Emily was like a waking nightmare. She was demanding, loud, but my father had picked her for me. Hed spotted his old mates daughter and decided wed be perfect together. Since I didnt have another girl and was already thirty, I had to go through with it. Emily ran everything in our marriageevery little thing had to be her way. First, we had a child, then another, just as shed planned.

Life rolled on, full of struggle and setbacks. There were so many awful moments it felt like living in hell. I hated my wife, my kids, and fell out badly with my father-in-law. I never thought Id get through it without a divorce.

Mum always had my back, but both she and Dad just told me to wait and be patient. Like they knew something, having lived their years, and were sure Id understand when I was older.

And then the kids grew up and moved out. Im still with Emilyweve grown used to each other, figured things out, and now I cant imagine life without her. Moneys stable, more or less. Weve got this quiet happiness now, like something out of a fairy tale. Both of us are healthy, want for nothing, love each other, and havent got a care in the world. Everythings just right. Been ages since weve had anything to complain about.

It took us forever to get here, but I wonderdo people really feel happy when theyre busy with work, kids, and all the rest? Or does it creep up on them, like it did for me, when theyre older? When theres nowhere left to run, and no reason to.
