I threw my wife out of the house and shielded my daughter from her after discovering where shed been taking the girl.
My wife and I had been together for six years. She had an eight-year-old daughter who was just two years old when we met. The girls father had left months before her birth, and then out of the blue, he turned up at our doorstep last December while I was at work. When the girl first saw her father, he barely spared her a glance.
Two weeks passed, and suddenly my wife told me theyd decided to share custody. She refused to tell me where the man lived or even give me his number.
My wife always drove our daughter to school and picked her up from clubs.
But I noticed that in early January, the girl started resisting visits to her fathers. She said his place was awful, dirty, and she couldnt sleep there. She told meright in front of her motherthat she didnt want to go anymore. And then, last Friday
My wife left work at eight in the evening and was meant to collect our daughter straight after. By nine, neither had returned, and my wife wasnt answering her phone. I rang her sisters, her motherno one knew where she was. I even went to her workplace, but the place was empty.
Just after two in the morning, my wife and daughter finally walked in. I stood up, furious. My wife just said, Sorry, with an innocent look. This was her story:
Her phone had died at work. Shed driven to her exs house but thought no one was home. With no way to call him, she waited. He and the girl showed up after nine, carrying takeaway. The father claimed theyd walked to the shop and picked up food on the way back. My wife went inside and let them finish eating. Then, she said, she dozed off on the sofa, woke at quarter to two, and rushed home. She insisted shed been exhausted after a long day.
Finally, she gave me the mans address and asked me to take our daughter there the next day. When I arrived, I found a rundown shack by the road, in a rough part of town! Cockroaches everywhere, beer bottles strewn about. The man was sitting in his underwear on the sofa, staring blankly at nothing. I turned right around and brought my daughter home.
That evening, I discovered my wife had been giving him money and topping up his phone from our joint account. Had they become a couple? Either way, Id had enough of the liesI wouldnt be surprised if theyd slept together.
So last night, I told her to leave. I demanded she let our daughter stay with methis house was the only place she was safe. I wouldnt send the girl back to that hovel! My mother-in-law fully supports her living with me, and legally, Im listed as her guardian.
I suppose Ive no other choice. Well see how things unfold.
